Reagents for desalting crude oil

The presence of salts in the oil has a negative impact on operation of oil-refinery equipment : salt deposition in furnace pipes and heat exchangers requires their frequent cleaning, reduces heat transfer, causes severe corrosion (chlorides Ca and Mg are hydrolyzed with the formation of HCl); poisons the catalysts. In addition, salts and mechanical impurities accumulate in the residual oil-fuel oil and tar, and impairs their quality.

  • With deep oil dehydration to a water content of 0.1-0.3% the residual chloride content is rather high: 100-300 mg / l (in terms of NaCl). Therefore, only one dehydration to prepare the most deposits of oil for the oil refining is not enough. The remaining salts and water in the oil are removed by desalting on crude and vacuum distillation unit.
  • In accordance with the requirements of the oil refining industry, aimed to primary refining should not contain more than 3 mg / l of salts, 0.2 and 0.005% by weight of water and mechanical impurities.
  • As a result of the industrial tests of reagent ALKAN-1062 on crude and vacuum distillation unit of oil refinery managed to achieve the required level of cleaning from salts.
  • Reagent consumption 5-15 g / t, depending on the initial content of chloride salts in crude oil.
